Symbian Operating System, Now Open Source !
The source code for the ten-year old Symbian platform will be completely open source and available for free starting Thursday. The transition from proprietary code to open source is the largest in software history, claims the Symbian Foundation.
Meanwhile, the operating system has seen new rivals crop up. Google’s Android, which is based on a Linux kernel, has become a favorite among handset makers such as Motorola and HTC. And it’s based on an open source foundation too.

But will that be enough for Symbian to steal away customers lured by a snazzier and younger rival?

Testing SCMP using Pidgin
Al Salam Alykom Everybody,
As you all know, the SCMP Team released the alpha version 0.1-unstable release with 10000 lines of code and really interesting features for a messaging platform.
Every Open Source project out there mainly depend on the members of the community to test the software and then report bugs and feature requests to the project programmers, without the user community the project is just a useless piece of software and that’s your role in SCMP even if you are not a developer, believe me it is extremely important to test the software and try to push your mind to get those awesome ideas to the developers so that they can implement it for you
Here we will be going through a tiny tutorial to use pidgin, the famous multi-protocol IM to connect to SCMP and add your buddies on H4ck3rZ Network so you can chat with them once they are online.
Steps:
- Install pidgin whether you are using Linux or windows, then open it
- Click on Accounts => Manage Accounts
- Click Add
- Now enter the following information:
-
- Protocol: XMPP
- Username:Your username at H4ck3rZ Network, so for example in my case my username will be ahmedelgamil@cat-hackers.net
- Password: Your password at H4ck3rZ Network
5. Now Click on the “Advanced” tab at the top and enter the following information:
-
- Connect port: 5222
- Connect Server: scmp.cat-hackers.net
Congratulations, You should now be connected to SCMP Server and able to add friends from the H4ck3rZ network to your friends list.
Once you are logged in, you will get a message with the following body:
This is a testing system, if you have any problems using the H4ck3rZ Chat service, please contact mail@cat-hackers.net on mail or chat to h4ck3r@cat-hackers.net on the chat system.
Don’t forget to add me to your friends list, just add ahmedelgamil@cat-hackers.net
Happy SCMPing
